CanEat in Stirchley – tricky but successful!

Earlier in the year Kitchen Solutions were approached by Caneat in Stirchley, Birmingham, with a challenging brief:

· To design a professional front-of-house kitchen

· With limited floor space

· To use the old semi-domestic kitchen

· To double production

· To convert a room that had previously been used as a store & prep room into a dishwash area and cold room

At design stage the biggest obstacle we had to overcome was the requirement for a dramatic increase in food output.  It is a small cafe that has seen huge success but with such limited space how could we do this?  Well Lincat had a lot to do with it (!)

Our electrician investigated and we managed to pull in a bigger electricity supply.  This enabled us to install a slimline combination oven, the Lincat slim.  Just installation of this single piece of equipment allowed us to replace two convection ovens, saving valuable floorspace at the same time as increasing production capacity!

We planned the rest of the front-of-house to include 4 energy efficient induction rings in the form of the Lincat IH42.  We also installed the Lincat AS4 rise and fall grill for flash finishing & toasting – ask anyone from Stirchley and they will tell you that Caneat’s Toasted Sourdough and 7-minute eggs with Gochujang Mayo is out of this world!

To complete the front-of-house Kitchen Solutions manufactured a smart-looking bespoke new servery and prep area with heated pass.  In the remaining space we installed a wonderful, time-saving, Foster counter refrigerator with 6 drawers instead of doors.  In a tight busy kitchen, the ability to pull out a drawer and immediately access the item you want then push the drawer back in is invaluable.

Out the back in the old stores we installed a cold room and a bespoke dishwash area.  With wipe clean Whiterock walls and a new non-slip floor – the space was transformed!
